As the seasons change there are so many influences advising us to buy new foundation to match your "new" skin tone or buy new lipstick to follow the season’s trends. Although it is great fun with new colours and being creative with your looks it would mean you may need 2 sets of foundations, 2 sets of concealers, powders, blush and let’s not talk about the seasonal lipsticks! But now let's be honest who can tell me that they REALLY want to spend so much money on make-up?? I don't know about you, but I love make up, but I would rather save my money for a weekend trip.
So I've teamed up with literally one of Scandinavia’s best make-up artists and I dare say that because she's got over 8 years of experience as a make-up artist both in Sweden and Norway working for top brands such as MAC. Sandy Kawekwa also known as FacesBySandy is now here with us ready to share her passion and help you help yourselves and teach you what you need to know before you buy make up and how you can save 100s of SEK by just using what you already have to create a full look. She will also share some creative tips on how you can use the make-up you already have to create the best looks!
- What type of make-up would you need to change based on seasonality? and why?
I would change my foundation, concealer and lipsticks. During winter I would go for deeper colours such as aubergine, plum, deep browns and deep reds. For the eyes I don’t think one needs to buy new products but rather pair them up in different ways. For instance, a recurring trend during the winter season is wearing nude eyes but with a strong lip. However don't forget your nails which can be nicely matched with the rest of your look. For instance wearing dark nail-polish and adding a bit of glitter on is well suited for this winter season.
Why?
Take for instance the contrast between summer and winter where I would wear less make-up as I may not need so much to give me that natural glow as the sun does that job perfectly! Whereas in winter I would wear make-up to enhance this glow in my skin.

- What can be used instead of buying 2 of everything?
A great tip is if you have your winter colours, such as your foundations your concealers, powders and your lipsticks then you can use them together instead of buying a whole new set for that season. For instance I am currently using my contouring which is actually my summer foundation colour. So I would suggest you look in your make-up bag in the summer and winter and try to combine them throughout the year.
For instance; during summer the skin is dewier so what you want to achieve with your foundation is getting the extra glow or getting more of a tanned finish. And these products are good for you during summer because you may be tanned and the products where bought in that season. So winter time comes and your colour changes. The texture of your skin also changes with the dry season.
- What creative tips do you have that can inspire people to use what they already have?
One fantastic advice is that you can take a non-matte (creamy) lipstick and use that as your blush to get a more radiant finish. This is however more suitable for dry and combined skin.
Since winter time is more about matte products you can take a tinted lip-gloss ad apply it on your eye lid.

- What final tips do you have for people when they go out to buy make-up? What should we think about?
First of all think about what you already have in your make-up bag. What options do you have to combine what you already have and what are you missing in your make-up bag. "And also remember that a foundation, concealer, and powder is like a pair of shoes you don't buy them before you try them on."
So ladies remember that you do not have to splurge to be luxurious and in line with the trends. You just have to use your creativity and imagination, because the beautiful thing about it is that it’s just make-up so have fun with it!
